A retained search is when a consulting firm is hired to do a search for one specific position and that is their focus, and they present a small group of candidates to the school.
On the RG175 website, after registering as a candidate (it’s free), scroll through the list of current searches and upload all the required documents, which include a cover letter, resume and writing sample.
Yes. We review all materials and will provide feedback if we're asked to do it.
Yes. We want the candidates to be as successful as possible and are happy to provide feedback, as long as it doesn't get to a point where we're over-coaching.
It is critical. Paperwork is designed to get you an invitation to be interviewed by the search committee. Your paperwork should be free of spelling errors, and make sure you’ve got the right name of the school you’re applying to.
A personal statement. Tell the search committee a little bit about yourself. Educational philosophies are no longer required. (We are tired of hearing about John Dewey.)
All of our consultants are listed on our website on the Contact page or on their individual. Candidates interested in a position may either e-mail, call or text.
Yes. We will provide tips for things to think about when interviewing. Please see the candidate page that includes tips for interviews, both in-person and on Zoom.
Very carefully. We welcome internal candidates and tend to only put forward one in the search process for each school if there are more than one that show interest. We are very protective of internal candidates because it's a very bold move to make and we want to support people in their own school. We will spend plenty of time with an internal candidate to make sure that they know where they stand. We are direct and honest with all candidates, but especially with internal candidates.
Candidates are more than welcome to apply for more than one job at a time either within RG175 or with other search firms or schools. It is very important that if you reach the semifinal stage in one of your searches, you let the consultants in the other searches know right away.
